Due to the increased driving exposures of working for a food delivery company or a rideshare service app, a personal auto policy will not cover you. This is because business use is excluded from a personal auto policy, leaving an individual with a major coverage gap. I.E., No liability or physical damage coverage (Comprehensive or Collision).

Many companies may offer liability coverage; however, it will typically be “excess” coverage. This means your auto liability limits will have to be completely maxed before their coverage even applies.

There is good news, though; insurance companies can provide a business use endorsement on a personal policy or offer a commercial auto policy to fill in coverage gaps. However, until you inform your insurance agent or company, you are taking a chance at denied claims and possibly being dropped from the carrier in the event of an accident.
